Wayne County Autism Care Roadmap
Wayne County's Autism Care Roadmap
Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability in America, stealing more youngsters each year than diabetes, cancer and AIDS combined. It affects one in every 110 children, including one in every 70 boys. A new diagnosis is made every 20 minutes. There is no cure and most insurance companies don’t cover treatment.
In January 2010, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano and Steven D’Arcy, Chairman of the board of the Detroit Medical Center and co-founder of the Autism Alliance of Michigan, came together to form a unique partnership. The goal of the partnership is to improve the quality of life for Wayne County families impacted by autism. The partnership will raise awareness, promote insurance coverage legislation and provide easy access to services.
